“ … Schatten in Schwarzweißfilmen sind viel bedeutungsvoller als in Farbfilmen. In Schwarzweißfilmen symbolisieren Schatten das Fehlen von Licht und Wissen. Im Farbfilm bestehen Schatten vor allem aus lila-brauner Körnung, wofür das auch immer stehen mag. (Guy Maddin)
