[...] Ken Jacobs has been making avant-garde and experimental films for over forty years. Along with Stan Brakhage, Jonas Mekas, and Peter Kubelka, Jacobs’ films represent the most provocative and innovative spirit in experimental cinema. ...
Ken Jacobs: ... Cinema creates an experience for its viewers and many people come to depend on the experiences provided them by the movies. Most movies are coherent. They are fairy tales that lead to something. Movies have resolutions. Many people live at the movies and tolerate fumbling through their real lives. Life is different; it does not seem to lead to anything. It’s diffuse, yet infinitely penetrable. So, the difference is between a cinema that is a cooked, or organized experience, and one that encourages viewers to reflect and have their own experiences. The difference is between living through the movies and using the movies to enrich your critical engagement with life and the real world. One is an experience that dominates while the other condemns you to be free.
...
Gregory Zucker: Having spoken about your aesthetic and "Star Spangled to Death" it seems that the notion that our reality has been packaged and manufactured for us, whether it be in the arts or in politics, is a recurring theme throughout your films.
Ken Jacobs: Most people do not question their world. They think that the world that exists today is the only one that has ever existed and that what they are shown is all that exists. Artwork shows other possibilities, it is another language. It is an enigma. The art that I make is not about messages. It is about presenting enigmas. I think that that is a sane stance for the artist to take in the world. The role of the artist is to show other possibilities, which helps to bring a little sanity to the world that is imposed on us.

http://desistfilm.com/They Shoot Pictures, Don't They?
They Shoot Pictures, Don't They? is dedicated to the art of motion picture film-making and most specifically to that one particular individual calling the shots from behind the camera - the film director. The 800-plus directors listed within these web pages range from the great geniuses of cinema (Godard, Welles, Hitchcock, etc.) to the great studio auteurs of the 40's and 50's (Hawks, Siodmak, Fuller, etc.), to the European masters (Buñuel, Renoir, Bresson), to the modern-day breed (Tarantino, The Coen Brothers, Kiarostami).
They Shoot Pictures, Don't They? should be viewed primarily as a cinematic traffic cop. In other words, we'll guide you in the direction of each director's best work (both from our own perspective and also from a critical-acclaim perspective). We'll also point you in the direction of each director's full filmographies (courtesy of links to the Internet Movie Database and the All-Movie Guide) and other valuable resources (via links to relevant pages and relevant reading materials). We firmly believe that They Shoot Pictures is, if nothing else, an excellent starting tool for aspiring movie buffs to begin (and also plan) their 'serious' film-viewing experiences.

...https://www.trigon-film.org/de/directors/Andrei_Tarkowskitrailerclub70.com

[2005] Investigators in Rome have reopened the inquiry into the murder of Italian film director Pier Paolo Pasolini in November 1975.
