Giada is a free, minimal, hardcore audio tool for DJs and live performers. Load or record up to 32 samples, choose to play them in single mode (drum machine) or loop mode (sequencer) and start the show with your computer keyboard as a controller. Giada aims to be a compact and portable virtual device for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows for production use and live sets. 100% open-source GPL

Mellosoftron
The MellosoftronTM is a low latency, fully programmable virtual sampler.
It can be controlled from a MIDI keyboard, a sequencer or any MIDI file player. No wavetable card is required. Any entry-level 16 bit sound card will do just fine, as long as it supports the Windows DirectSound API.

Shortcircuit was created as a reaction against the ongoing trend where software samplers are being designed with the primary intent of library playback. It is intended for people who, like us, consider a sampler to be a musical instrument in its own right, and not just a way to emulate other instruments. It has been a very high priority to make sure that adding and editing individual samples is as fast and logical as possible. ...
