Title: Floppy Disk (Diskette)...
Post by: Link on September 01, 2009, 03:59:42 PM

The floppy user guide
This document1 is intended for people interested in details about floppy drives, e.g. the
interface bus, data recording, logical structure of data on the floppy and more. The
connection to Linux is made where applicable to show how floppies from other
computers can be accessed or how and why it is possible to put more data on a floppy.
Since they use the same interface, there is also a small section about floppy tape
streamers. (March 27th, 2007)

Programming Floppy Disk Controllers
The purpose of this document is to provide information related to programming the NEC µPD765 and the Intel 82072/7 Floppy Disk Controllers (FDCs), by use of the registers. ...

The 82077AA floppy disk controller has completely integrated all of the logic required for floppy disk control.

KryoFlux is a USB-based floppy controller designed specifically for reliability, precision, and getting low-level reads suitable for software preservation.
Main Features

Read at lowest level possible - precisely sampling the magnetic flux transition timing. Custom formats? Recording scheme violations? Encodings? KryoFlux reads them all!
Save as raw stream, or export to common sector formats supporting: Acorn Electron, Apple, Amstrad CPC, Archimedes, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, BBC, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, MSX, IBM PC, PC-8801, Sam Coupe, Spectrum, E-MU Emulator & Emulator II, DEC RX01 & RX02 and many, many others.
Write back to disk. KryoFlux supports "one-click" writing of IPF files, and will soon be supporting more image formats as well.
Parallel export support. E.g. An Amiga/ST dual format disk can be written as raw stream, an ADF and an ST file, all at the same time during a single disk capture.
Intelligent software allows production of sector images for virtually all normal disks for systems containing a generic FM or MFM floppy controller. Many other weird synthesiser sample disk formats should work right out of the box.
Reading and writing is completely independent of real drive speed, also supports variable rate "zoned CAV" disks in a normal fixed rate drive.
    RoHS and WEEE compliant.
High quality immersion gold coated boards produced in cooperation with, and assembled by, Olimex Ltd. |

"How use a Raspberry PI as an Amiga Floppy Drive Emulator"
This is a very simple and finally very cheap (5-10 eur) project: a very common chip (74LS06), a couple of resistors and diodes, a protoboard. This interface doesn't require any change to the Amiga, you have only to remove the internal floppy and put the interface and the Raspberry PI in place. ...
