I come from the forest, with its mossy paths and pine needle covered rocks. I come from an old land, from a mythical land. This is where I can be, naked from cultural expectations. This is where I create.
My photography is about a female utopia where she disrobes from gender pressures, where she lets herself fall into an arcadia of pre-formative. Her presence is so quiet that it becomes loud, the sentiment and power are compressed making a melancholy space.
The female presence unfettered by external ideas creates this utopia that is shrouded in melancholy. SOPHIE MöRNER - Manifesto The awareness of passing time is morose, because it's fleeting in the moment and in retrospect it's already gone. This movement of time allows me to 'capture' these utopia moments. In this world every moment is a contained universe. This is not sentimental. This is my mythical homeland.
My work constructs a personal and community narrative that is seemingly self-contained while engaging with a vision of its own potential. My work is not concerned with perception per se, but focuses on the practice of creating spaces of a collective imaginary.
Within this collective imaginary, the unfettered female interacts with the landscapes and animals in organic ways, and experiences herself as an equal member of the natural world while finding like minded that join her in this particular utopia. A mythical realm is created through her interaction with the landscape as it is fused with the empowerment of the collective imaginary. She is a vision of my homeland.
